From #1 Amazon bestselling authors of THE BETTER HALF – a Mindy Book Studio Selection – comes a funny, empathetic novel about a mess of a heroine who is desperate to resolve her past so she can finally rediscover who she was always meant to be.

“Youmans and Frank return with a highly readable novel of one woman’s fight for her dreams…Frank and Youmans paint a diverse cast with ease and don’t shy away from calling out harmful stereotypes…Perfect for readers who like thoughtful yet witty books.” –Booklist

“Alli Frank and Asha Youmans have written yet another winning novel in BOSS LADY a whip-smart, heart-warming and all-around delightful look at one woman’s quest for success on her own terms.” –Tara Conklin, New York Times bestselling author of Community Board, The Last Romantics and House Girl

“Wepa! A feel-good tale about the power of perseverance, the beauty of diverse women uplifting each other, and the value of healthy relationships! BOSS LADY left me inspired to go for it, just like Toni!” –Priscilla Oliveras, USA Today bestselling author of West Side Love Story and Island Affair

The bestselling writing duo Alli Frank and Asha Youmans have earned an enormous, devoted following for their humorous, emotionally relatable stories about women who are going through it all – divorce, family issues, complicated love lives, and career trials and tribulations.

Their debut novel, Tiny Imperfections, has been optioned by Lionsgate Television, with Niecy Nash-Betts and Traci Carter Holsey attached through their production banner Chocolate Chicks Productions.

Publishers Weekly praised their next novel Never Meant to Meet You for “exploring the common ground between African American and Jewish experiences: the characters feel like real people with racial and religious identities that inform their worldviews, but don’t define them.” Booklist called the book a “complex yet sunny read” and “a must-buy.” Mindy Kaling chose their next book, The Better Half, as a Mindy Book Studio selection, and Entertainment Weekly, Glamour, Good Morning America Online, AARP, and The Seattle Times all raved about this delightfully funny novel.

Fans of Jasmine Guillory, Emily Henry, Annabel Monaghan, and Abby Jimenez will absolutely adore BOSS LADY (Montlake; July 2, 2024), Frank and Youmans’s eagerly awaited new com-rom novel.

Meet Antonia “Toni” Arroyo. Her protective mother has outdated notions for her daughter’s life: employ her natural beauty and marry young. But Toni has wholly different aspirations.

A promising inventor and budding entrepreneur, Toni fights to keep her passions alive as a financially strapped mother of twins with a job in airport transportation services that has her going in circles. One treasured frequent passenger is elderly traveler Sylvia Eisenberg, Toni’s sage but unofficial adviser and cheerleader. When Toni meets Sylvia’s grandson, Ash, a striking venture capitalist, luck just might bend her way.

With a game-changing new business endeavor in development, Toni hustles an opportunity to pitch her idea on TV’s Innovation Nation. Toni’s unexpected challenger? Her very own recently resurfaced, self-aggrandizing not-quite-ex-husband. As Toni’s interrupted past collides with her tenuous future, she is more determined than ever to follow through on her delayed dreams. Toni’s been clinging to “maybe” for so long—it’s finally time for “absolutely.”

To celebrate the publication of BOSS LADY, we are hosting a virtual book tour with this exciting lineup of book influencers. We hope you will join in the day-to-day fun!

Late Spring Virtual Tour for UNIVERSE OF LOST MESSAGES by Janet Stilson

What if your child has extraordinary powers of charisma and can get people to do almost anything? What happens if the child is abducted?

“With UNIVERSE OF LOST MESSAGES Stilson shows herself to be one of the very best of new SF writers. This is a terrific thriller but it’s also a deeply incisive political novel, holding up a mirror to our celebrity-obsessed culture. The dangers Stilson writes about are set in the future, but they may be just around the corner. An original, vibrant, entertaining, and thrilling work of fiction.” – Jonathan Oliver, former editor-in-chief of Solaris Books, author of The Language of Beasts

Publishers Weekly called The Juice, Janet Stilson‘s debut science fiction novel, “an energetic vision of a dystopian near-future America … This cyberpunk adventure delivers plenty of future tech and social commentary to please genre fans.” Booklist praised this novel as “ambitious and genre-bending, blending cyberpunk, espionage, romance and social commentary in a fast-paced story … The main thread is entertaining, tech-centric, and action-packed enough to keep readers engaged to the end.”

Readers will be happy to learn that Stilson is back with a stand-alone sequel, UNIVERSE OF LOST MESSAGES, which will be published on May 14, 2024 (Dragon Moon Press).

Izzie and Tristan were never mere humans. They are Charismites, with almost god-like powers of magnetism. They couldn’t be more different. Izzie is a reckless, playful megastar whose popularity far exceeds that of any other celebrity. Tristan is a secluded nature lover, almost completely unknown to anyone beyond a protective biodome.

Their worlds explode when they are abducted by The Fist, a power-hungry political group with a master plan to control the hearts and minds of all people on Earth and satellite colonies beyond.

But the plan only works with the help of Charismites.

Tristan and Izzie’s families will do anything to find them.  But they don’t have much to go on until a feisty, street-wise teen, Cheeta, discovers clues about the Charismites within a strange metaverse filled with millions of missing messages. But will they actually find them? And can they destroy The Fist before they take over the planet?

Filled with an eclectic cast of characters, a slow-burn romance, humor, and wonderful descriptions of a sensual and sometimes violent world, UNIVERSE OF LOST MESSAGES is a gripping new sci-fi thriller, filled with political intrigue.

To help celebrate the publication of this new novel, we are hosting a virtual book tour with these wonderful book influencers who will post reviews, features, and giveaways. We hope you will follow along:

April Virtual Tour for THE LIES AMONG US by Sarah Beth Durst

“Elements of fantasy and magical realism provide an intriguing framework for exploring the ideas of complicated grief and whether not telling the truth can leave real remnants that affect the world around us.” –Booklist

“The Lies Among Us is a wonderfully inventive novel, beautifully written, with a cast of characters that is fantastic in every sense of the word . . . a marvelous read!” –Louisa Morgan, author of A Secret History of Witches

“This book is full of lies (and that’s exactly why you should read it). The Lies Among Us is an engrossing and wildly inventive story that takes a magic wand to the lies we tell ourselves and each other and imagines a world in which the line between truth and fiction is a curtain that could be pulled back at any moment.” -Ruth Emmie Lang, author of Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance

From the award-winning author of The Bone Maker and The Lake House comes a haunting novel about sisterhood and grief, where difficult truths must contend with the corrosive power of unchecked lies.

Book Riot has described award-winning author Sarah Beth Durst as “the hidden gem of the fantasy world,” and “an expert at crafting beautifully sincere characters, with compelling backstories and relationships, who work to make their world a bit better.”

Her captivating and evocative new novel THE LIES AMONG US (Lake Union Publishing; 4/1/24) is the latest example of these creative superpowers. It’s a paranormal family drama that delves deep into the complexities of grief, the intricate bonds of mothers and daughters, and the destructive nature of lies. Durst brilliantly and effortlessly blurs the lines between reality and the supernatural to create a unique story of self discovery for sisters Hannah and Leah Allen. THE LIES AMONG US is a story unlike anything you’ll ever read!

After her mother dies, Hannah doesn’t know how to exist without her. Literally. In fact, Hannah’s not even certain that she does exist. No one seems to see or hear her, and she finds herself utterly alone. Grief-stricken and confused, her sense of self slowly slipping away, Hannah sets out to find new purpose in life—and answers about who (and what) she really is.

Hannah’s only remaining family is her older sister, Leah. Yet even Leah doesn’t seem to notice her. And while Hannah can see and hear her sister, she also sees beautiful and terrible things that don’t—or shouldn’t—exist. She learns there’s much more to this world than meets the eye and struggles to make sense of it all.

When Hannah sees Leah taking the same dangerous path that consumed their own mother—where lies supplant reality—she’s desperate to get through to her. But facing difficult truths is harder than it looks.

February 2023 Virtual Book Tour for BLACK FOAM by Haji Jabir, translated by Sawad Hussain and Marcia Lynx Qualey

“A captivating tale of one man’s tireless journey to belong. Perfect for readers of East African literature and historical fiction.” ―Booklist

“A searing exposé of the plight of Ethiopian Jews who immigrate to Israel. There is a cinematic quality to BLACK FOAM, a discovery of new worlds, with Haji Jabir pointing a camera, up close and intimate, at his protagonist’s anxieties and fancies. Scenes slice as Muslim Dawoud becomes Christian David then Jewish Dawit, accompanied by a haunting soundtrack of loneliness and the indomitable will to survive.” ―Leila Aboulela, author of River Spirit

Haji Jabir, the award-winning Eritrean author, is one of the most significant Arabic-language authors writing today. In BLACK FOAM, he weaves together a poignant tale about identity, belonging, refugees and racism that will resonate with many readers long after the last page is turned. Longlisted for the 2019 International Prize for Arabic Fiction, one of the most prestigious prizes for fiction in Arabic, BLACK FOAM will be published for the first time in English, translated by Sawad Hussain and Marcia Lynx Qualey (February 7, 2023; Amazon Crossing, by arrangement with the African Literary Agency).

With a unique poetic writing style, Jabir focuses on a community of Ethiopian Jews who move to Israel, and he creates a protagonist, Dawoud, who is on the run from his murky past, aiming to discover where he belongs. He tries to assimilate into different groups along his journey through North Africa and into Israel, changing his clothes, his religious affiliations, and even his name to fit in, but the safety and peace he seeks remain elusive. It seems prejudice is everywhere, holding him back, when all he really wants is to create a simple life he can call his own. A chameleon, Dawoud―or David, Adal, or Dawit, depending on where and when you meet him―is not lost in this whirl of identities. In fact, he is defined by it.

Dawoud’s journey is circuitous and specific, but the desire to belong is universal. Spellbinding to the final page, BLACK FOAM is both intimate and grand in scale, much like the experiences of the millions of people migrating to find peace and safety in the twenty-first century.

January 2023 Virtual Book Tour for A CASTLE IN BROOKLYN by Shirley Russak Wachtel

“This is a story about immigration, adaptation to new cultures, and, for Esther, a chance to grapple with the traditional roles that women play. The house itself is an important part of the story … a solid choice for book clubs.” ―Library Journal

“A vibrant family saga…A CASTLE IN BROOKLYN is an impressive debut novel that illustrates the many ways that the Holocaust continues to impact contemporary Jewish life; a deeply felt hatred of fascism gives the novel its heft and lasting relevance.” ―Foreword Reviews

For fans of Ann Patchett’s The Dutch House, Lauren Fox’s Send For Me and Linda Cohen Loigman’s The Two-Family House comes a moving and heartfelt immigration story of one man’s dream to have a family and build a home in America, a place where anything is possible. In A CASTLE IN BROOKLYN (Little A; January 1, 2023), critically acclaimed author Shirley Russak Wachtel pens her debut novel, an engaging and beautifully written tale that explores three main themes: the importance of following one’s dreams; the enduring nature of family and friendship; and the idea that home is a reflection of the lives within its four walls.

In 1944 Poland, Jacob Stein and Zalman Mendelson meet as boys under terrifying circumstances. They survive by miraculously escaping the brutalities of the Holocaust, but their shared past haunts and shapes their lives forever.

Years later, Zalman plows a future on a Minnesota farm, and Jacob has a new life in Brooklyn with his wife, Esther. When Zalman travels to New York City to reconnect, Jacob’s dream to build a home in Brooklyn becomes a reality. With Zalman’s help, they build a house for Jacob’s family and for Zalman, who decides to stay. Modest and light filled, inviting and warm, it’s a castle to call home for each of them.

Then an unforeseeable tragedy―and the grief, betrayals, and revelations in its wake―threatens to destroy what was once an unbreakable bond, and Esther finds herself at a crossroads.

Life goes on as others, with their own dreams, move into the home.  Eventually, the novel comes full circle as those who remain come to understand the true nature of friendship and family.

When asked about the inspiration for her novel, Wachtel explains, “I am defined by my parents’ legacy. Growing up the child of Holocaust survivors, never knowing my grandparents and with only a handful of extended family members, I came to understand the importance of family and am driven to express this idea in my writing.  From a young age, I learned of the horrific experiences my parents endured and their desire to build a better life for their children.  Their story is the story of so many others seeking to build a new home in America.  I wanted to express this idea in A CASTLE IN BROOKLYN.”

We have a great line up of fantastic bloggers who will share features, post reviews and offer giveaways throughout the month of January. We hope you will follow along to learn more about this wonderful new historical fiction!
