Cool: How Air Conditioning Changed Everything by Salvatore Basile A Library Journal bestselling book

We’ve been big “fans” of Salvatore Basile’s delightful social history on the birth of the air conditioner for some time now. Really! We rate it right up there with Devil in the White City, The Pencil by Henry Petroski, and Salt by Mark Kurlansky.

Well, it seems we’re not alone in our enthusiasm for this quirky book. Library Journal just released their 2015 bestseller list for engineering and technology titles, and COOL: How Air Conditioning Changed Everything is sitting pretty at #7. Congrats, Sal!

Early buzz for Meagan Brothers’ LGBT YA novel, WEIRD GIRL & WHAT’S HIS NAME (October 2015)

Weird Girl Book Cover

Three Rooms Press will publish Meagan Brothers’ new LGBT YA novel, WEIRD GIRL AND WHAT’S HIS NAME, this October 2015, and this quirky book is already receiving great early reviews. Kirkus Reviews weighed in this week:

In a small town in North Carolina, a close friendship between two eccentric high schoolers breaks apart, leaving a rift…Rory narrates the first half of the book and Lula, the second, and both voices are crisply and intimately drawn. Minor characters are equally vibrant, particularly Walter, Lula’s rugged but kind stepfather, and Seth, the school’s unexpectedly wholesome and gentle quarterback. The X-Files, the details of which both Lula and Rory lovingly recount, provides a strong common language and set of symbols throughout.

Carefully and subtly imagined.

Interest in Richard Katrovas’ memoir RAISING GIRLS IN BOHEMIA continues to grow. In this week’s issue, Kirkus Reviews  weighs in on Katrovas’ essays, calling the book…
“A distinguished writer and English professor chronicles his experiences living and loving between American and Czech cultures….At times brutally provocative, Katrovas’ essays, which also grapple more generally with otherness, faith and the role of art in society, are nothing if not stimulating….ultimately humane.”
